Tropical Park Birding, 10/13/24

On Sunday, October 13, twenty birders joined TAS field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza at Tropical Park to search for southbound migrant songbirds. As has been the case since Hurricane Milton passed, birds were everywhere we looked. Among the 45 species we found were 14 warblers: Ovenbird, Worm-eating Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Hooded Warbler, American Redstart, Cape May Warbler, Northern Parula, Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Palm Warbler, Pine Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler and Prairie Warbler.

Other migrants seen included Merlin, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Gray Catbird, Summer Tanager, Scarlet Tanager and Rose-breasted Grosbeak. We also found three introduced parrot species: Yellow-chevroned Parakeet, Orange-winged Parrot and Red-masked Parakeet. A list of every bird we saw can be viewed in this eBird checklist.
