Fall Birding at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens

Forty-three birders joined TAS President Joe Barros and Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza yesterday morning for a bird walk at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens in Coral Gables. We split into two groups, with each group heading in a different direction but eventually covering both upland and lowland areas of the gardens. As expected, each group produced a slightly different bird list. Only Joe’s group saw Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Great Egret, Downy Woodpecker, Peregrine Falcon, Red-eyed Vireo, Northern Waterthrush and Yellow-throated Warbler, while only Brian’s group spotted Great Blue Heron, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Cooper’s Hawk, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Cave Swallow and Pine Warbler. A trip list that combines sightings from both groups is here .
